Accessibility

What is there, what is still missing and how to report a problem to us.

The goal

This site aims for level AAA of WCAG 2.2, the international guidelines for the accessibility of websites. AAA is the highest level.

No external body has checked the site: we do not claim certified conformance. Below you will also find what still does not work.

What is there

A screen reader version of every page, in all five languages: white background, only text and links, no images and no scripts. It sits at the same address, with “text” after the language: /en/text/ is the Home page. The first link the keyboard reaches, at the top of every page, takes you there.

You can use the site with the keyboard alone. “Skip to content” jumps past the menu, the submenus open and close from the keyboard too (Esc closes them), and the point where you are is always marked.

Text colours are chosen for a contrast of at least 7 to 1 with their background, as criterion 1.4.6 of WCAG 2.2 requires.

The images that rotate on the Home page have a pause button. If you have asked your device to reduce motion, the site animates nothing.

The visual pages also have the iubenda accessibility panel, the button at the bottom left. For people who use a screen reader, the intended route remains the text version: it has neither this panel nor any other script.

How we check it

With every new version of the site, automated tests run in a browser (Chromium) at 1440 and 390 pixels wide. They check whether the page scrolls sideways, whether buttons measure at least 44 by 44 pixels (criterion 2.5.5), whether the keyboard focus is visible, whether headings are in order and whether the text version says the same things as the visual one.

What is still missing

  • Nobody has yet tested the site with a real screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack), nor with a person who uses one every day. That is the next test.
  • On phones, the “Blog” menu item has a touch area 38-39 pixels high, less than the 44 we set ourselves. The tests of 23 October 2026 measured it.
  • The tests run in Chromium: the site has not yet been tested with Firefox or Safari.
  • The cookie banner and the accessibility panel are made by iubenda, and we have not yet tested them with a screen reader.

If something does not work

Write to us from the Contact page. Tell us which page, which device and, if you use one, which screen reader: it helps us find the problem.
